Privacy policy

Short version: Betta Dreams is a static site. We don't set cookies. We don't collect accounts. We don't track you across the web. The longer version is below in case the short one reads too casually for your compliance team.

Data we collect directly

None. The site is pre-built HTML, CSS, and a small amount of JavaScript. It has no login, no comment system, no newsletter signup form on this page, and no analytics beacon run by us.

Analytics

We currently run no analytics at all. If that changes we'll update this page before the beacon ships.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare retains standard HTTP request logs (timestamp, IP, user agent, URL) for abuse detection and operational telemetry. We do not receive or store these logs ourselves. Cloudflare's own privacy policy governs what they do with them.

When the newsletter is live, signups are handled by a third-party provider (Beehiiv or equivalent). Subscribers give their email address to that provider directly; we do not receive or store email addresses on this site. Their privacy terms apply to subscriber data. An unsubscribe link appears at the bottom of every email.

Affiliate links

Outbound links to Amazon, Chewy, and named tank-gear merchants are sometimes affiliate links. When you click one, that merchant may set its own cookies to track the referral. We receive a small commission on some purchases at no cost to you. See the disclosures page for the full list of programs we participate in.

Embedded content

Some articles embed YouTube videos or link to external images hosted by third parties. Those services' privacy terms apply when you interact with their embeds.

Children's privacy

Betta Dreams is general-audience content. We do not knowingly collect any data from children. If you are a parent and believe a child's data has somehow ended up in our hands, email us and we will investigate and delete it.

Your rights

GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, port, or delete your personal data. Since we don't hold any personal data directly, any such request should go to Cloudflare (hosting and analytics) and to our newsletter provider (subscriber email). We'll help you route the request if you email us.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will bump the "last updated" date above. Breaking changes (e.g. introducing behavioral tracking) will get a banner on the homepage for 30 days.
